Installations by Ettore Favini and Eugenio Tibaldi

AFTER LEONARDO

The Museo del Novecento presents “Atlantico” by Ettore Favini and “Giardino abusivo” [Illegal Garden] by Eugenio Tibaldi, two new site-specific installations which are going to be integrated into the museum collections.

The works have been equally awarded by the contest promoted by Comune di Milano | Cultura for the design and production of contemporary artworks inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s genius. Selected among more tha eighty projects, the installations provide a totally original interpretations of the guidelines – taking advantage of the new media languages and reflecting on the most topical themes of our everyday lives: sustainability, interaction between mankind and nature, collective participation to the creation of new possible futures.
Ettore Favini chooses to be inspired by the Atlantico Code, following le water transformation up to its final evolution in fog. The video-installation “Atlantico” is a clear reference to those landscapes and haze which are the very core of Leonardo’s “sfumato” technique. At the same time the artist provide a quiet and isolated space, where the viewer is invited to relax following the rhythm of flowing water.
Eugenio Tibaldi analyzes that “informal” aesthetics which is typical of the city suburbs, providing a new contemporary imaginary. “Giardino abusive” [Illegal Garden] is an installation in progress, created by three units organically integrated into three different spaces of the museum entrance. The artwork is aimed to create a completely sustainable device where vegetables and flowers can openly grow, thanks to the aid of an active and involved community.

Nature and technology combined together to dialogue with the Museo del Novecento spaces, providing to the visitor an interesting confrontation with Leonardo’s heritage with a totally contemporary look.
